Format Matrix
What converts to what. Everything runs locally in your browser.
FormatFlash decodes your image and re-encodes it to the format you choose, so almost every supported input can become any supported output. The table below shows the grid, including the few caveats worth knowing.
| Input ↓ / Output → | JPG | PNG | WebP | AVIF |

Notes on specific conversions
- Transparency: PNG and WebP keep it; JPG does not, so the background colour is filled in.
- Animation: animated GIF and WebP are converted from their first frame (the result is a still image).
- AVIF output: only offered when the browser can encode AVIF. If the AVIF option is missing, your browser does not support it.
- Maximum quality: converting JPG → JPG or recompressing an already-lossy image can reduce quality slightly. Use a high quality value.
