Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers to the questions we get most often.

Is FormatFlash really free?

Yes. It is 100% free with no hidden fees, no premium plans, and no signup.

Are my images uploaded or stored?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored, or inspected on a server.

Is there a file size or count limit?

You can add up to 50 files per session, each up to 50 MB. The real limit is your browser's available memory — very large files may take longer or fail on older devices.

Which formats are supported?

Input: HEIC, HEIF, JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG and TIFF. Output: JPG, PNG and WebP, plus AVIF in supported browsers. See the format matrix for the full grid.

What happens to my metadata?

EXIF, GPS and other embedded metadata are removed because each image is re-encoded locally. Image dimensions are preserved.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Add multiple files, then download them individually or together as a single ZIP archive.

Does transparency survive conversion?

PNG and WebP keep transparency. JPG cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour you can choose (white, black or custom).

Which browsers are supported?

Modern versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile. AVIF output depends on browser support.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the first visit a service worker caches the app, so the converter keeps working without a connection.

Can I use FormatFlash on iPhone?

Yes. It works in mobile Safari and Chrome, so you can convert HEIC photos to JPG, PNG or WebP right in the browser.
